A usual story - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
This movie didn't disappoint me, but it didn't engulf me either. I wouldn't recommend it, but it is a good way to spend a couple hours.
He has been resurrected!! - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
Excellent movie and Samuel is always such an engaging and strong actor. The movie drew you in from the opening and it kept your attention and the struggles of the champion are ever so real. Great story line, visuals, and writing. Bravo

D - for dumb humor - Wedding Crashers Reviews
I am simply let down everytime I get talked into going to an american made comedy. Who's rating these comedy movies... post pubescent boys and girls? I guess if you think bare breasted women, stupid cliches' and just plain dumb writing is funny... more power to you. I'll stick to the foreign comedies, until Hollywood can produce something more funny than this type of garbage.

Nothing to say but incredible - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
this was the best picture in the month of August. nothing else to say, but when the DVD comes out, i am getting it.
Pretty damn memorable - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
Samuel L. Jackson does a masterful job at falling into the place of a unordinary character. It might not of been a Denzel in Training Day but he did a damn good job. The story of it was very decent and the visuals of the fights and flash backs I thought timed in perfectly.
What a realistic movie - it smacks you hard - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
In a wealthy society in which most reading this live - few if any ever have any contact with street people, and if they do, they never take the time to really know them -- no less realize what motivates or motivated them. This movie accomplishes this, but who should care about this poor lost soul? The answer is us all. If we are real ourselves and live in a world outside of a sheltered cocoon at best. Samuel L. Jackson does a superb job and is very convincing in his lapses of memory, blurred vision, penchant for alcohol and all of the other trappings that are part and parcel of a boxer who labored too long and hard inside a brutal boxing ring - often to entertain people like you - the readers of this. The story at first seems trite and surely is going only to a predictable end until the truth is discovered about an un-truth, which constitutes the later part of this boxer's life. Those few around him who are affected by it handle this coming of age rendering in various ways that is the real acid test of their characters. This is one of the best movies I have ever seen and I see lots of movies. As a former dock worker and professional boxer myself my heart went out to all of the street people former pugs like this. Thanks, Vaughn

Resurrecting this movie?? - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
samuel say it isnt so, this story was boring and awful, a homeless man and a washed up reporter the blind leading the blind two good actors wrong script...wait for the bootleg version
Oscar for samuel jackson? - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
This movie has some real solid acting. I have seen Samuel Jackson in a lot of movies, and he is very versatile. This has to be him at his best-kicking it up a notch. He is totally believable as being down and out, and makes you really feel for him. This movie has great premise, and finds you wanting to know more about him and his life. The movie really gets you wound up in the storyline, and has some good lessons all wrapped up for you in the movie package. Pretty powerful stuff here, there has been some great movies out this summer, but I rate the acting in this one up at the top. If you are tired of the action, comedy, and love stories and ready for some good drama then go see this one!
Mr. jackson should be meet mr. oscar, great job. - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
Samual Jackson was at the top of his game in this role, he was very believable as this down but not out boxer,I never saw the ending coming, he should be given Oscar consideration for his performance, great film, take your family.

Pretty decent movie, bad hartnett - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
Josh Hartnett is possibly the worst actor I have ever seen on the screen. Despite this, after suffering through the banal first half of the movie which tempts one to walk out, the second half redeems itself by addressing ethical and moral questions with a fair aptitude, buttressed by a consistently strong performance by Samuel L. Jackson. This is worth watching if you're paying matinee prices and don't have anything else to do some afternoon.
Jackson get oscar - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
An exceptional performance from Samuel Jackson; but then that isn't surprising; we expect such performances from him and he lives up to our expectations and even surpasses them as the champ. The remainder of cast is par for the film with Alan Alda as a strong character butnot enough time on the screen; but it are the scenes with Jackson that are looked forward to in this non-boxing film.
Almost a hit - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
This movie is almost very good. The story was dramatic enough to keep my interest, and the film does make an attempt to go beyond the plot and dabble in some thematic content. This should have been a good role for Josh Hartnett to show some depth as an actor, but he is clearly outdone by Samuel Jackson, who delivers a performance worthy of an Oscar nomination. I did not care for the camera filter; the movie has a sort of washed out, unfocused look to it - maybe an attempt to make the movie look like Jackson's character feels. But it would have been better if this mood was delivered just by the performances. Some of the scenes between Josh Hartnett's character and son were on the sappy side, but they did help to deliver the movie's message of truth and examining one's life, and as a father of a baby girl, I took the bait. Still, something is missing in holding this movie together, and I left the theater not quite sure why I did not love it. But Resurrecting the Champ is worth seeing, even though its flaws won't make it stick with you for long like a great movie does.

Great story...well told! - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
Anytime a good story is told, regardless of its authenticity..it's entertaining. This story is compelling and quite interesting. I recommend this to all sober minded individuals who don't need special effects to make their movies fun to see!
Reserecting the champ - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
samual jackson has done it again. playing the part of a down and out boxer he is very convincing. i have never seen a sam jackson movie i didn't like, but res. the champ tops everything he has ever done. his appearance, wit, and use of voice set him apart as an actor in this movie. the twist in the movie, wants you to believe that he really is bobby sommerfield and not jimmy kincaid. josh hartnett is in my opinion shedding his boston gang image and coming onto his own as a good actor. (not a fan ot ben afflack, brad pit etc.)
there were several witty moments, buy my favorite was when eric asked to go through his possessions, bobby replies, "sure after i go through your stuff at your house. issue closed.
well, it's time for me to see my movie of the day. this is the best movie i have seen this summer. (not really a great endorsement)
Movie gets 3 1/2 T's.
Sucker punch - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
We saw this movie last night, and I quickly found out why this movie seemed to sneak in the back door of our usual multi-plex. We went because we enjoy the acting of Samuel L. Jackson. We just didn't know that he and a six year old were the only true actors on the screen. We enjoyed the scenes with Sam (maybe oscar nomination good), but Josh Hartnet ruined the movie, he was beyond awful, not that I can say he has ever done anything memorable. He was totally miscast, did not fit the character, unless he was only trying to demonstrate that he couldn't have cared less.
There must have been a look in my eye, as Sam would say, that made me vunerable to the brain numbing punch from Josh H.

More like resurrecting the chump - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
I had high hopes for this movie, and it felt like I received a body blow while watching it. The acting was terrible, the story wasent that good, my nephew has made finger paintings that were more visually pleasent than this movie. I dont ever recall ever walking out of a movie or really ever wanting to leave, but I was damn close on this movie. It was just painfull to watch. Mr. Jackson you let me down with this one.
Best movie so far this year - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
There are so many ways to look at this movie and that alone is what made it great. Dispite the diguise in promotion this movie is about the rash of journalistic faux pas's that the sensationalism of TV journalism has forced upon the print industry. Unlike the clown at the NY Times that was making up the news to earn his pulitzer prize this is a story of a journalist that was duped by the story.
As it turned out the publisher wanted a story about what happens to a boxer after he falls out of the limelight and that is exactly what he got.
I know history tells us that when the real world heavyweight division is lacking a true champion all hollywood has to do is make one up and the film will be a success. This movie gives us no raging bull, or rocky balboa but in my book is truly a great movie all on its own.
Samuel l. jackson is awesome - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
My wife and I went to see Samuel L. Jackson's latest movie Resurrecting The Champ and I'm glad we did....This movie was a very well told story from beginning to end....It had some laughs and a few tears and in the end I became a real big fan of this movie.....Usually a movie doesn't stick in my mind that much after I see it but for some reason this one has..It is a truly amazing piece of work that needs to be viewed by everyone....I can't say enough about this movie.....Jackson and Hartnett did a hell of a job together in this one and they gave a knockout performance...***** for "Resurrecting The Champ".

"resurrecting the champ" - this was a decent flick - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
I almost did not go see it because some critics were bashing the hell out of it. Once again I could probably run circles ariund those fools. 1st let me say I am not a Josh fan. But he did a fairly good job and Teri Hatcher another aging cutiepie was really good in her limited role. But Samuel L. Jackson made the movie, of course. He made it without being in his typical mode.
The rest of the cast were good as well...the father son stuff was a bit over done but the story, though somewhat predictable works. Another good job for the flicks...
3 of 4 pickles...
Lacks common sense - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
As big a fan of Samuel L Jackson as I am, this movie made absolutely no sense to me at all. It really isnt a movie about boxing as much as it is a movie about a boxer who befriends a news reporter up until something happens that might betray the friendship. You have seen this movie before, and you have seen this movie much better before, so in case you could not guess, that would be a big thumbs down.
Another so-so - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
The story itself although based on a true story that was based on a lie, it, I am sure was more appealing in real life. I was bored throughout the duration of the movie. The storyline was long and drawn-out. There were many times that less would have been more.
i will say that samuel l. jacksons performance was convincing and aesthetically pleasing. In an era that see Mr. Jackson as either a star of the film or has a cameo in any others, this was his best performance since Pulp Fiction.
As for Mr. Josh Hartnett, as for being the teenage heart throb he once was, I would say that he needs to step up his performing. The only thing that sees to get him through Hollywood are his looks.
And on a last note, Alan Alda needed a role that has him more active in the movie.
Confused - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
WHERE ARE THEY SHOWING THIS MOVIE? I AM LOST, I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ANY SHOWTIMES ON THIS MOVIES ANYWHERE. ITS SO WEIRD, COULD SOMEONE HELP ME OUT? THANKS
Jackson gives the preformance of his career!! - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
This movie is insightful, endearing, and thoughtful. Jackson captivates audiences and really shows why he the highest-grossing male actor. This movie has an unexpected ending and leads the audience to change sides several times. Many unexpected twists and turns. If you are tired of cookie cutter endings you will love this film.
A wake up call on the high horse ppl - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
I love the movie. I have seen many on top of many movies and this is one really open my ass on how high we can go and low as we can go. I really enjoy the movie and as high as tickets cost these days its hard to walk out of a movie threater and say " i really enjoy watching the movie and didnt mind the price) great movie and cant wait to buy it when comming out.

Dads can be champs too! - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
This appears to be a story about sports writing and boxing and they are incidental themes. The real theme that emerges slowly is the theme of being a good father and what the ramifications are of not having a good father. One person hides in a fictional life and another vows to be different than his father;how they bump into each other and become friends fills in the real blanks to the story for which the incidental themes provide a vehicle. Both Jackson and Hartnett play their roles well considering who their characters are supposed to be. Complaints of Hartnett of being a 2D character is him acting his character with problems to resolve and he does make a change in character. Jackson plays his role with aplomb throughout as he is a more colorful character to begin with and their friendship reveals more of his character's background.
In the end, they have come to a very solid friendship that came through some tough testing times. The dad sonnecting with his kid proves to be a champ too.
Critics are wrong. - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
I went into the theater with a negative attitude based upon movie critics reviews. I walked out wondering how many people were going to miss this wonderfully acted, entertaining movie. The three people who watched the movie with me all agreed this is an excellent movie and were surprised at not only the acting but a script that provided a great twist in the end.
Best movie this summer! - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
Great story, with values and morals. Guess some shallow people get board with movies that don't revolve around nudity, violance and foul language - which this movie stays clear from.
Beautiful story about the realationships of father and son, husband and wife, employee and boss, source and reporter and the complexities of truths, half truths and lies.
The acting is superb! Samuel Jackson takes his character of a homeless has-been boxer to an Oscar worthy performance.
Truely a movie to go see, you won't regret it if you do - unless of course you are shallow ;)
Starts off with a bang but fizzles - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
From the first third of the movie I was engaged and looking forward to the unfolding revelation which would make this movie worthwhile. What a shame that this interesting subject gets muddled in too many subplots in which the director can't keep the momentum going in any of them. Last half of the movie is a yawn and then ends without satisfaction. Josh is a cute but seems to immature for this role and not believable as a loving dad at a life changing crossroad. Samuel L. Jackson's talents were wasted in this caricature of an elderly boxer now homeless. He is capable of so much more.
Boring ass movie... - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
No high point att alll, very boring plot...cant stand it...sleeep all the way and left when the movie is not even over, waste of money...
Waste of time - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
This movie put me to sleep. Samuel L. Jackson's voice was so annoying through out the whole movie. Josh Hartnett needs to grow a set in this movie. Crying to your kid for lying about being best friends with John Elway? LOL...and does Muhammad Ali even play golf?

See this film! - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
This is a heartfelt, earnest story with terrific performances. Hartnett has never been better. Jackson shines. Supporting cast is amazing. Well worth seeing in the theater!
Don't listen to the critics who bash this one! - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
I almost did, but I did find some good reviews and decided to go see it. I am so glad I did! This is one of the best movies this year! Samuel L. Jackson is amazing and Josh Hartnet proves he's not just another pretty face. The overall story is magnificent, without being overly mushy. I loved the chemistry between the actors. I like learning about Journalism. This movie reminds me of "Mad City". Trust me- you won't be dissapointed.
Sam jackson is "the champ" - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
This is a wonderful movie. I think it may be Samuel L. Jackson's finest performance....in fact, he is definitely Oscar worthy for this unforgettable role!
Hartnett is excellent too, but it is Jackson's believability that keep your riveted to the screen.
The fact that the film is based on a true story makes it even more interesting.
I took my dad and son - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
So what if it's a "gooey" movie about fathers and sons - as the critic wrote above. It's a well written script with great performances from Jackson and Hartnett (by far Josh's best performance to date). There are a million chick flicks and silly romantic comedies and really, how many more sisters / mothers / daughters movies do we need? This movie was great. Sons take your dads... it's the best movie you will have seen together since you last watched The Sandlot!
A real champ - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
"Resurrecting the Champ" was not exactly what I was expecting. I was expecting the movie to be more about boxing, while it focused more on journalism instead. Now, this is far from a bad thing. I actually found Hartnett's storyline to be more interesting than Sam Jackson's.
The performances in this movie were fantastic. Sam Jackson turns in his best dramatic performance ever. He blends into the character so well. Hartnett also did a great job. I have actually liked Hartnett's recent films. I was one of the few people who really liked "The Black Dahlia." I thought Dahlia was originally Hartnett's best performance, but he easily beats it this time around. Both performances are oscar-worthy.
The story was a bit slow, but I thought it worked very well because it let the drama build. This film was also very similar to the film "Shattered Glass" starring Darth Vader...I mean Hayden Christensen. But I actually found this movie to be a lot more interesting. While the film isn't perfect, the performances alone make this film worth seeing.
Terrific at sundance - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
Sam's the man! Hartnett has never been better. The story of a young journalist discovering what it means to be a father broke my heart. I have a young boy and the movie made me cry at the end. Slow here and there, but that's the way it goes sometimes when you are trying to build characters.

Excellent potrayal of the father son relationship - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
I found the father/son relationship provided a great message in that sometime we want to impressed our children with what we wish we were instead of just being real with them and letting them know that yes daddy's not perfect but his love for that child is perfect and through ups and downs nothing can change that. Excellent message A+
Rent cinderella man instead - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
Not a boxer's story, but a writer's. I left feeling blah. Jackson was exceptional but the story lacks punch. As a film about the homeless it may have worked but that part is poorly resolved. The writer becomes the hero but did nothing for the homeless boxer he befriended; appalling! It was almost perverted to be a film about a successful writer who corrects his mistakes (rah, rah) while the poor, homeless boxer is left in the gutter and we are supposed to feel good at the end because the writer gets the girl? Bllsht!!! The director has a sick sense of redemption. The faux-hero writer drops the homeless boxer off at the home of his ex-wife at the end. Are we supposed to believe this downtrodden alcoholic is going to knock on the door after 20 years and be welcomed back into suburbia and comfort? That's what we are left to believe. What a fkn crock!
A solid movie, sam j is fantastic, go see it - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
There should be more stories like this showing at our local theaters.
Moral dilemmas, crises of integrity, the need for family, the search for truth, all good stuff and in short supply in our over stimulated world.
Sam J is AWESOME, Josh H. gives his best performance yet.
Unbelievable Peter Coyote, Alan Alda is fab, David Paymer is what you want. Teri Hatcher nails it too.
RTC is good stuff. One of the rare stories that boldly states how hard it is to be a father, a son, a husband... a Man in todays busy and conflicted world.
Tell a friend.
Josh harnett sucks - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
If you take Samuel L. Jackson out of ANY scene in that movie and leave Harnett standing alone to (I can't believe I'm about to say this) act, this is one of the worst movies I've seen. Josh Hartnett is a horrible actor in this film. He is emotionless, though trying to be emotional.
Jackson was stellar, as was Alda. But there was too much Hartnett. If I were his wife in this movie, I would have left him too! Skip this one.
One of the better sundance movies this year - Resurrecting the Champ Reviews
Great performance by Samuel jackson on top of strong direction and supporting cast. I literally cried and laughed with this father-son story about the importance of being true to yourself.
It's a bit slow in parts and will hopefully be edited down from it's 1hr 53min runtime for wider release. Overall, the best Harnett movie ever (which isn't saying too terribly much) and Jackson's best movie since Pulp Fiction. I give it an A-.
